Summer Sunshine, Sassittude, Lola's SEVEN months old!

I'm ready for my close-up Mr. Damill. I may not be smiling on the outside in this picture...but on the inside I am. Why is that? Because this photo was taken at St. Joseph Church, on the last night of the festival. Puppies and kitties were not allowed to be there. But my mommy slapped a dress on me (it reads 'Perfect 10') and paraded me right in to see all 'church friends', such as Gerry and Patti, Uncle Mike and Aunt Ann and Cousin Joanna, and the Fathers Mike. That's right, there's two of them- and they both like me. The night of the festival, mommy won the grand prize raffle drawing, and brought home $6,000. I guess I brought her some good luck. She's not willing to hire me and her male escorts or a cruise on the Riviera though.

I love being outdoors, rain or shine. I love it even more when I'm outdoors with my bestest brother Pooka. We're really only supposed to play in the back yard, but sometimes I am in the front yard too. Aunt Ida and mommy bought me a rain slicker, and I outgrew it so fast they need to exchange it for me. As you can see, it was raining, so mommy stuffed my fatness in tot he rain slicker just for photo purposes. (No puppies were injured while this photo was being made.) When grandmom pulled up, I rushed to her car and she burst in to giggles seeing me in my rain gear...she said I looked like the Gorton's Fisherman! I was so engrossed in the wet grass this day that I refused to look up at the camera for mommy to get a full face shot. So unlike me, I know!

I think George Michael says it best: 'Sex is natural - sex is good

Not everybody does it

But everybody should Sex is natural - sex is fun Sex is best when it's....one on one

one on one.

I'm not your father I'm not your brother Talk to your sister I am a love.' (Those are lyrics from George Michael's song 'I Want Your Sex.') And although he may have so many more ROMANTIC songs, SENSUAL songs, UPLIFTING/FUN songs....the song 'I Want Your Sex' is so important, and so true. Mommy said he didn't sing it at the concert she just went to, but she didn't care. What both George, and my mommy, and I want to say though- is if you're going to have the sex with someone...make sure to protect yourself (and them) by wearing (Or insisting your partner) wears a condom. SAFE SEX is not a joke, and is nothing to take chances with. I was very happy when I came across my mommys own stash of love gloves/sex coats/rubbers/CONDOMS that I couldn't control myself and had to try it myself. A bit chewy for my taste....and not really necessary for puppies. But oh-so-necessary for people to use. Just make sure if you use a condom that your own pet didn't have a chew on it, like me in the photo above. And after a long, hard day of running and playing in the back yard. Being chased by Pooka, chasing him in return....it is often required to take a nap. Some people don't believe that Pooka and I are best friends. But it's true. We even nap together! Cro'i normally does not play outside with us, but on occasion she's been known to stick her paws in the earth and frolic. Pooka is a great bug hunter too! Tonight he caught one of the BIG cicada bugs and brought it in the house as a birthday gift for me. Because, today I am 7 months old! He left it in the family room, but I didn't think mommy would like it. So just as she was about to sit down to dinner, I barked my little puppy-head off with my 'somethings wrong' tone and she came to see what was going on. Well! She almost fainted when she saw the HUGE birthday gift Pooka caught & brought me. She made grandmom get rid of it, as mommy was too chicken. But I thanked Pooka...because you know, it is the thought that counts!

Lola's 1st vacation-Salem, MA

I was on vacation....I was on vacation.....I was on vacation *tails wags wildly*. Oh hi there! I didn't realize you were still reading my blog from the last entry and was just thinking back about my trip I was on. Last weekend, Aunt Ida and mommy took me on a vacation (that means we went far far away), to the wonderful town of Salem, MA. Before we went away, I spent the afternoon at Bark, Bath & Beyond to get my nails clipped and a professional bath (my 1st professional bath) so I would be all pretty and smell good. Mommy made sure that my suitcase was packed with my bowls, foods, snacks and she even surprised me by packing my two babies (Barry and Tigger!)

We took a long car trip all the way to a big, BIG boat. The boar ride was so much fun as we met these really nice people. They talked with us, and paid me so much attention, the boat ride seemed to go by so fast. Then we drove and drove, and drove some more until it was time to have a light lunch. So we went to McDonalds, and mommy bought me a chicken mc-nugget happy meal as a treat. :o( But she kept the toy. Then we drove a lot longer, but I took a nap for the rest of the way on mommy's lap until we got to Salem, MA and the place we were staying (The Salem Inn.)

Next we hung out in the room a bit, unpacking, resting and I got fed my dinner. I also ran around the inn a bit, checking out the parlor where the finch were (and the sherry) to going across the inn to the other side of the building. As it got later, we walked a few blocks so mommy and Ida could get dinner. They opted for Chinese food, with outdoor seating. Of course I had some Chinese food too, and made tons more friends. We saw some fighter jets fly over head, and then we saw some beautiful fireworks. My Aunt Ida and mommy were so happy that the firework noise did not scare me.

After the fireworks, and talking to grandmom on the phone we went back to the Inn, and had a nightcap of sherry. We were all so tired we conked out in the huge bed. On Saturday we went for breakfast, and sat in a beautiful courtyard as we ate quiche, croissant's, fruit and the other breakfast foods the inn provides. We walked around the streets, looking at beautiful houses which were centuries old. Mommy was a very conciencous visitor, and each time I dirtied, we picked it up with the poopie bags we always carry. Some visitors did not do that. HOW RUDE! Saturday afternoon Aunt Ida and mom went to Gloucester on a whale watch, and I watched an 'I Love Lucy' marathon on tv and napped. When they finally came back, mommy took me on another long walk and we also did some window shopping, picking out the bestest stores we wanted to return to. That night we ate in the room, and mommy went on a foot tour, as Aunt Ida and I stayed in the room, vegging. Saturday night I proweled the inn with mommy a bit, looking for ghosties. I really did sense some stuff, and got mommy scared so our investigation didn't last too long. (I think she was very tired anyway.)

Sunday morning morning we got up very early. We were missing the rest of the family, but really wished we could have stayed in Salem. In the photo to the next, you can see me telling mommy that the room had ghosties in it. Off to breakfast we went, and then did a marathon shopping stopping in several stores, one of course was a WONDERFUL pet shop which gave me fountain water and snacks as we browsed. Mommy bought me a dazzling new red leather coller with 'diamonds' as well as an angel charm which reads 'protect this dog'. Pooka and Cro`i got one each too, but their charms said 'protect this cat.'
Another long car ride to the ferry boat to go home, which I slept on mommy's lap the entire time. Once we got tot he ferry it was so overpacked we had to take a later one. There was minor car troubles but it was resolved. On the ferry ride home, I slept but mommy and AUnt Ida talked to some more nice people I managed to introduce them too. Also some little girls sang me songs, which we thought was very nice. Once we got home, I pounced my brother and sister, like no time had passed without being together. I can't wait to go on another vacation!

I can't believe a whole month has past!

Hi everyone, I hope that you're all enjoying your summer so far. I know that I sure have. Lots have happened since my last post and I apologize for not updating the blog more frequently. But in my short puppy life, so much happens so quickly, that I don't always have time to run to the computer, boot Pooka and Cro`i off of the Internet (because they like to look at kitty-cat sites) to update my blog.

Let's talk about those kitty cats for a minute, and how everyone is adjusting to a home with a puppy these days. As I'm getting older, I am a constant ball of puppy energy-meaning all I want to do is play, play, play. Even though I am small, I am still a bit too much for Aunt Ida who I know loves me. Aunt Ida instead plays only a little with me, shares her breakfast with me and watches Sponge Bob Squarepants with me. (Aunt Ida used to hate Sponge Bob.) Once mommy comes home from work, we'll either play in the backyard or go for a walk around the block. I like to investigate everything! Of course we'll snuggle on the couch too. Grandmom doesn't play with me much unless I greet her at the door or snuggle up on the couch next to her. Then she'll give me belly rubs. I LOVE belly rubs....can't get enough of belly rubs. I am a belly whore! (Or that's what mommy calls me.) Pooka and I have become bestest friends. We play together, and sometimes (as little sisters are known to do) I annoy him a bit. But we actually go in the backyard for a minute to take in the scenery, standing next to one another. Sometimes I gnaw on his ears, and he doesn't even complain. If Pooka escapes the house without permission or Cro`i, I will bark, and herd them in to the house. I do this because I know it is not allowed for them to be outside. Cro`i on the other hand is still not too keen about me. It's because I am so energetic, and as I rush her she gets a bit enrvous. I don't mean to scare her...I just want to give her kisses. If I approach her gently or slowly, she will allow me to kiss her a few times, or she'll kiss me. I guess she just needs more time.

I am almost all housebroken. I still have some accidents, but we're working on this. When Aunt Ida, mommy and I went on vacation (see next post) I did not have any accidents in the room. On July 7th I turned 6 months old.....we didn't have a cake or anything because my birthday fell on a Monday. On Wednesday, July 9th I had to go to have some surgery- I am being spayed so as not to have any puppies. Mommy and everyone say it's better and healthier for me. Plus mommy heard that sometimes pugs have complicated births and need to have cesarian's because of the big puppy heads. So it was decided no puppies for Lola. I also had two puppy teeth yanked out of my mouth, to make room for my big grown up teeth. And that's about it. I'm loved, I love my family...I'm happy, and I bring happiness to everyone who meets me, no joke! Read the other blog about my summer vacation, to Salem, MA.

Summer lovin' & I'm having a BLAST

"Summer loving.....had me a blast.....summer lovin' happened so faaaaassssst! I met a pup....crazy for me! Met a pup...almost as cute as me!"

Oh! Hi there! You caught me singing. I've been practicing with the Hollywood showtunes station. Cro`i says that Olivia Newton-John has nothing on me. But Pooka just covers his ears with his paws and says he 'goes to his happy place' when I sing. A lot, and I DO mean a lot has been going on since my last real post. Did you all wish my mom a happy birthday? Or do I need to nip you if I see you?
The above photo of me, swimming in my birthday suit was taken on June 8th, at the Hounds On The Sound Walk, to raise funds for Save-A-Pet, of Port Jefferson NY. That's the place mommy got Pooka and Cro`i from so we try to help them out. But I'll get to that later. Port Jefferson is 'my town'...people paws to look at me and pay me compliments. (Get it? Paws? I crack myself up.)

Last month, we had gone to Port Jefferson to visit our friend Jaret, who owns Enchanted Indigo. Grandmom had met up with us because we had some car trouble, and we wound up lunching at this great restaurant called TOMMY'S PLACE. There is a courtyard, and as long as you behave yourself; kids of the 4-legged kind are allowed to eat with their families! Isn't that great? I was actually treated like royalty. Our waitress brought me my own glass of ice water, and a roll...on a real plate and in a real glass!

I also snacked on mommy's foods too. Because, you know....how can you say 'no' to a face like mine? I had also drank so much water, that before we left, I accidentally did a wee on the stone floor. But hey, I'm sure that courtyard has seen much worse. The family has promised to take me back there. :o)

This dog, in the photo to the right is someone I met yesterday at the Hounds On The Sound walk. He is a Weimaraner, and I forget what his name is. As you can see, he was trying to get to know me at an accelerated rate, but I gave him a good sniff too. Him and his parents were very nice, and walked in our group as well. The walk was 3km which is the same as 1.8 miles. It was very hot, and thankfully mommy thought to bring my bowl and a bottle of water as we walked. Although we rested, they did not have water stations set up a long the way, and a lot of the parents of pets were not too happy. I was able to walk all the way from the start point to the half-way point. But by that point I was real hot, and really tired. Our group rested in the shade a bit, and we all drank water...that some of our folks had brought themselves.
As our group headed for the finish point, my little legs just couldn't carry me. I gave mommy the 'I'm pooped' look, and she carried me back for about 10 minutes. But I don't feel too bad, because there was a pug who was older than me, and HE needed to be carried too! So I didn't wuss out. After a bit, I was able to walk on my own, and made it on my own 4 feet across the finish mark. Grandmom and Aunt Ida were there cheering me on (and mom) on. To cool me down, mommy put me in the community pool (see 1st photo). There was still a lot to do though. The Hounds On The Sound event had foods, for pets as well as humans, vendors for every ones liking, music and contests.

Mommy entered me in the 'Best Dressed' contest, and we should have won, hands and paws down! I had on my sparkly pink tank top, and my denim funky mini-skirt. People even gasped when they saw me on stage. Instead some other dog dressed in a fireman costume won. How unoriginal! OK, maybe I sound like a sore loser...but I was dressed sporty, and summery, and my outfit didn't look contrived.
I do have to admit I had a bit of the stage fright my first time up there. But mom was a real trooper, and stage mom and made sure I got the lime light, AND felt comfortable up there. My second time up I responded much better. Also, note how mom and I were color coordinated? We should have won for that alone! Fixed results we all say! Anyway mommy and I raised $140.00 for Save-A-Pet, and plan to participate next year, and hope to raise MORE money. Thank you to all of those who sponsored us.

Other than Pooka escaping from time to time, in to the backyard when I'm going in or out to do my business, all has been pretty quiet. When he does escape, I have been given the task to track his scent, and BRING POOKA HOME. I always get rewards when I bring him in, and he always gets a bubble bath. Grandmom and Aunt Ida don't think he wants to run away from home...but just wants to investigate because I'm allowed in and out. And that's how I've been spending my summer thus far. Next month I get to go on vacation to Salem, MA with mommy and Aunt Ida!

Today is my mom's birthday!

Guess what everyone! Today is my mommy's birthday. She's 32 today....and in puppy years, that's like ancient! Well, actually she'd be 224 years old....I had to consult Pooka and Cro`i, because I ran out of toes to do the math on.

For her birthday I must have given her a gazillion birthday licks instead of my normal hundreds of puppy kisses. I am so happy to be able to celebrate her special day with her. Grandmom gave her a card from Pooka, Cro`i and me.

The reason why I am posting about her birthday in MY blog is to tell all of you to wish her a happy birthday! The family is giving her a paw necklace with our birthstones in it. I am sure it will look beautiful on her. But if any of you know Colin Farrell, she'd gladly take him as a gift too!

PLEASE HELP ME TO HELP HOMELESS PETS!

Good morning!

My Mom and I are in need of help and we’re both confident you’ll do the right thing, by sponsoring us in a 3k walk taking place on June 8th. This walk is to help the homeless and adorable kittens/cats and puppies/dogs located at Save-A-Pet located in Port Jefferson, NY. Save-A-Pet is a no-kill animal shelter and runs solely on donations.
http://www.saveapetli.net/

The reason why this event and shelter is so important to us is because our own Pooka and Cro`i had been adopted from Save-A-Pet almost six years ago. Pooka and Cro`i have brought nothing but love, joy and many laughs to our home….and we’re all very grateful that Save-A-Pet was the means to introduce the cats in to our lives.

Please support Lola and myself by sponsoring us on this 3k walk. The animals at Save-A-Pet will be most thankful…and you’ll feel good by knowing they’ll be safe until they find their new homes. Can you say ‘no’ to a face like this?

As promised Lola news& Lola pictures. Never too much Lola!

*Psssssssssssssttttttttttttttt* It's me.....Lola. I'm back and pounding the keyboard keys with my little pug nose. Have you missed me? I hope so, because I've sure missed you. If Ive had the opportunity to meet you that is. I feel like so much has happened between 'real' posts and hope to be able to fill you in on it all. On Thursday, May 15th I'll have been with the family for two months, but it already feels like two years. I have to say how blessed I am to have been brought to Ronkonkoma, and placed in the loving home that I live in. Then again, they're all just as lucky to have been graced with me. Because ya know...I could have said 'no way jose'.

So since it's been a while since you've seen pictures of me I will load you up. Please note that I'm naked in all of them, but hey sometimes being naked is just the way to go. I like feeling the breeze through my furs.

About a week and a half ago, Aunt Ida said that I needed an ice cream. Bless her heart! I had no idea what ice cream is, and when I asked Pooka and Cro`i, they told me it was pure bliss. So the family went out to dinner, without us kids of course, and upon their return we were treated to Friendly's vanilla ice cream. It was SO weird! Sweet and creamy, yet cold and refreshing. I dove right in, my little tongue lapping at it, and then it felt like my brain was going to explode. So mommy told me it was a brain freeze and to eat it slower. YEAH RIGHT, like I know the concept of eat and slow. Anyway as my little brain throbbed, I barked at the cup of ice cream and told it what I though of the meanness of hurting my head as I indulged.

I've been getting to taste more and more table foods. Of course they only give me 'teases' of what they're eating. On Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) Mommy got really sick. We don't know why- but on her way home from work some buggies in her belly made her get barfy in the car. By the time she got home, not only did she have a greenish tint to her, but she was as weak as a puppy or kitten. The next morning she felt slightly better, and made herself farina for breakfast. Of course she shared it with me. And guess what! It was woof-a-licious! I wish I could have it every day, but alas since that morning I have not had it pass my lips. Oh, look at my photo to the left....don't my eyes look spooky? Mommy tried to red-eye it out, but it wasn't working, so this is my bad-to-the-bone photo. Ha-ha-ha...bade-to-the-bone. I made a funny. :op

Don't I look so cute and innocent in the photo to the right? Couldn't you just eat me up? Due to my GORGEOUS looks, I can get away with just about everything. But it isn't always so. Just last week, Aunt Ida and I were playing in the backyard while Mommy and Grandmom were at work. Well after a little while I wandered off, and found a way out of the backyard. Aunt Ida had a heart attack when Christine across the street brought me home. Also, sometimes I get a little cranky, and I just want to chew on Mommy or Aunt Ida, or steal slippers. In the past I always got away with it. Not anymore! Now I've been getting lots of times out, in the crate. Which is not fun at all.....I feel like I'm in puppy prison. I've also learned from my brother and sister to climb up the couch, and then stand on the back of it. I love it, because I'm so tall and can see everything! Mommy, Aunt Ida, and Grandmom panic, as they think I'll try to jump off and fly, just like Iron Man. Every morning, when Mommy comes down to feed me and Pooka, and Cro`i I will wiggle up the back of the couch, like in the picture and give mommy tons of licks. And look at the middle of my nose! It's a lighter color than the rest of it!

I've been given a pretty clean bill of health. At my last puppy doctor visit I weighed (6) six pounds. When I went to dance class last week, Megan the receptionist helped measure me, and I stand at (7) seven inches. After the last poopie test, the results came back as negative.....meaning that the coccidia (parasite) is GONE FOR GOOD! Now all I have to do is get my Lyme's shoot and my Rabi shoot, get micro-chipped and I'll be done with seeing the wonderful medical staff at Hawkins Avenue Hospital for Animals (631-981-4111). At least for some time, anyway. My ears feel much better too...but Mommy, and Grandmom, and Aunt Ida still wash them out for me. And that's about all I can think of, that's rather new. I love visiting mommy's dance school because I get soooooo much attention. And I'm a firm believer is being spoiled. Until next time..enjoy my pictures, and Ill keep you posted. Happy mother's day to all the moms!
